A grant is gift assistance that is awarded by the federal or state government or the university to undergraduate students who have high financial need.

National Science Foundation: Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (S-STEM)

This program makes grants to institutions of higher education to support scholarships for academically talented, financially needy students, enabling them to enter the workforce following completion of an associate, baccalaureate, or graduate level degree in science and engineering disciplines.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund

The largest Hispanic scholarship-granting organization in the nation, NHSF recognizes and rewards outstanding Hispanic American students in higher education throughout the United States, including Puerto Rico. Founded in 1975, it has awarded more than 73,000 scholarships totaling nearly $170 million to outstanding Hispanic American scholars.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Undergraduate Scholarship Program

This program offers competitive scholarships to students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are committed to careers in biomedical research. The program is designed to improve access to education leading to research careers for those who have had fewer opportunities than others. The program is primarily designed to provide an incentive for exceptional scholars to pursue biomedical research careers at the NIH.

Hispanic Heritage Fund

The Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards run annually from January through June and honor young Latino leaders with grants for their college education. The Awards are divided into twelve different regions across the country: Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Jose/San Francisco Bay Area, Phoenix, Chicago, Miami, New York, Philadelphia/New Jersey, and Washington, DC. Students may apply to as many categories as they wish within any one region (and only one) regardless of where they live provided that they can attend the regional recognition ceremony.

The National Hispanic Press Foundation was established in 1996 by a small group of Hispanic publishers who recognized that there was much more that could be done to make America more literate, to make America a better place. They recognized that poverty, cultural differences and language barriers, among other factors, were preventing too many Hispanics from reaching their full potential. They saw that by sharing experiences, organizing training programs, helping Spanish communications to new residents of America and by publishing needed information critically lacking in the Hispanic community, the Hispanic Press Foundation could move our society forward.
