Movimientos, meaning “movements” in Spanish, is becoming a “legacy” program; one that the Resident Assistants who work in the Spanish Language and Culture Learning Community are expected to plan and residents are expected to attend. Morrison Tower staff members wrap their pride and effort around this event to educate students about Hispanic culture. Through means of traditional food, music, entertainment, education, games, and much more, students get a taste of Hispanic culture while having a great time! Upwards of 500 students have attended this well-received program each of the last five years, and the staff anticipate that number to be exceeded this year.

Much to the delight of students, Movimientos has a history of highlighting the dancing talent of both ClubTropical and TangoOSU. The impetus to plan such a large scale event came directly in response to the students and staff members who noticed a need to educate students about the existence of Hispanic culture in Ohio and on campus. Even though there is a vibrant and active Hispanic community in central Ohio, the fact remains that many students on campus do not know or appreciate the richness and depth of the culture. The goal of Movimientos is to continue to educate students about the diversity that exists in their own communities. In addition to the festivities, information about local Hispanic charities, outreach opportunities in Ohio, and information regarding the Hispanic population will be available for students should they want to reach out and give back to the wider community.

The staff of the Spanish Language and Culture Learning Community in Morrison Tower is hard at work planning for next quarter and is pleased to announce that Movimientos will be open to the younger brothers and sisters of Ohio State students during Lil’ Sibs Weekend. Be on the lookout for more information … We hope to see you there! 

Movimientos 2009 will take place this Spring at Morrison Tower Lobby. Join the fun!
