Portuguese at Ohio State and Curitiba, Brazil
By Professor Lúcia Costigan

A scenic view of Curitiba’s beautiful cafes. The Portuguese program at OSU has recently taken steps to reach out to our undergraduate and graduate communities, including Hispanic and Latin@ students. The program now features a study abroad program in Curitiba, Brazil during the winter quarters. Students who have credit for Portuguese 101 (offered in the autumn) can finish the Portuguese language sequence (102, 103, 104) in Curitiba during the Brazilian summer season. Students can also learn Portuguese in our Portuguese for Spanish Speakers course taught at OSU during the summer and winter quarters, as well as through our new Individualized Instruction program that offers 101 through 104 every quarter. Furthermore, a new faculty member will join the Department of Spanish and Portuguese in the upcoming academic year. Dr. Richard Gordon, a specialist in Latin American and Brazilian literatures and cultures, will help strengthen the links between Spanish America, the Caribbean, and Brazil.

For more information, please contact Rachel Sanabria, Academic Adviser, Department of Spanish and Portuguese at sanabria.3@osu.edu.
