Fabián Jarrín

Fabián Jarrín grew up in Washington, D.C., and graduated from a small private Catholic school called Saint Anselm’s Abbey. Others in his family have attended and graduated from college, e.g. mother, father, brother, aunt, and cousins. His major is Pre-Business.

How does your experience during these last two quarters compare to the expectations you had when you just started at Ohio State?
My experiences have far surpassed my expectations. My time spent here the last 2 quarters has been somewhat surreal with the unimaginable happening. Everything is perfect and I would change nothing.

What are the three most positive experiences you had at Ohio State thus far?
Among the most positive experiences at OSU are the classes, they were educational and fun, at the same time, I was given a chance to meet and learn from a variety of new people.

Another would be living on fourth floor Patterson. It’s simply one of those places where everyone gets along and everything is excellent.

What are the three least positive experiences you had at Ohio State?
The least positive experience was occasionally having too much fun, but besides that, there were no negative experiences that I can think of.

What would you say is your main concern as a student at OSU?
My main concern as a student is my classes; this quarter I’m trying to get a 4.0. I plan to work hard, achieve my goal, and have a great time doing so.

I have participated in no activities, though this quarter I am going to play soccer. I am currently involved in no student organization.

What offices or services have been helpful to you at Ohio State?
I haven’t really had the need for any student services yet, but I have heard that the Younkin Success Center and the Office of Minority Affairs are very helpful.

Have you visited ¿Qué Pasa, OSU?’s Web page? If you have, what features do you find most useful/helpful?
¿Qué Pasa, OSU?’s Web page is interesting and very helpful as it informs students of the various meetings and activities that are happening around campus--the information is really useful.

Do you plan to return next year? Why?
Of course I am returning next year. OSU is the perfect environment for students to learn, grow, and generally live. I love it here and there is nothing that could make me stop living here. Here one can find the perfect mix of work and fun.

Nicole Soria

Nicole Soria, or Nicki, went to Loveland High School. Her parents are college graduates. Her major is aviation.

How does your experience during these last two quarters compare to the expectations you had when you just started at Ohio State?
My experience during the last two quarters has been a good one. I found that even though classes can sometimes be large, the TA’s I’ve had have always been great and there are other resources available to help, one of the plusses to going to such a large school.

What are the three most positive experiences you had at Ohio State thus far?
I’ve had a lot of positive experiences. All the diversity that’s around me, including the variety of people and classes would have to be the best one though.

What are the three least positive experiences you had at Ohio State?
The food could be better, I’ve heard about TA’s that can’t speak English but I don’t know from experience, and the weather... I mean, really!

What would you say is your main concern as a student at OSU?
My main concern as a student is getting good TA’s.

Give us examples of activities you have participated during Autumn and Winter Quarter. What have you gained or learned from them?
I participated in some of the events that were a part of my residence hall, and I went to see people when they came to OSU, such as Jack Hanna, John Leguizamo, Chris Rock etc. I learned it’s great to go to a school where I have the opportunity to see people such as these perform and to be able to listen and learn from them.

Are you currently involved with any of the student organizations on campus? If so, which ones? Has the membership been beneficial to you? If so, how?
I’m in AHP, an aviation fraternity and it’s been great. The people involved in it are awesome. It’s beneficial because it applies to my major.

What offices or services have been helpful to you at Ohio State?
The main office, and also I locked my keys in my car and the parking people came and helped me out, he was really nice too.

Have you visited ¿Qué Pasa, OSU?’s Web page? If you have, what features do you find most useful/helpful?
I don’t really visit it, I read the newspaper though.

Jacqueline Abreo

Originally from Richmond, Hts., Ohio, Jaqueline graduated from Villa Angela St. Joseph High School. She is the first in her family to attend college. Jacqueline is majoring in Architecture.

How does your experience during these last two quarters compare to the expectations you had when you just started at Ohio State?
My experience during these past two quarters has been a very good one. I’m really glad that I’ve been able to and continue to fulfill my goal of learning more about who I am and what is really important in life. [Next year], I am returning to continue my education.

What are the three most positive experiences you had at Ohio State thus far?
The classes that I have taken this year, the variety of people whom I have learned from, and the friendships that I have formed are three aspects that have had a positive impact on my experience at OSU.

What are the three least positive experiences you had at Ohio State?
The least positive experiences I have had at OSU include getting around campus because of all the construction, pulling ‘all-nighters’ to work on time consuming projects, and surviving the cold winter.

What would you say is your main concern as a student at OSU?
My main concern as a student here is to stay focused on all of my classes. During the Autumn quarter I went on the Christian Crusade’s Retreat and was able to learn more about my faith. In the Winter quarter, I was busy with course work which helped me learn a lot more about my major.

Are you currently involved with any of the student organizations on campus? If so, which ones? Has the membership been beneficial to you? If so, how?
I am involved in a Bible Study Group which has been beneficial to me in many ways. I have learned about new perspectives and have met interesting people.

Have you visited ¿Qué Pasa, OSU?’s Web page? If you have, what features do you find most useful/helpful?
I have visited ¿Qué Pasa OSU?’s Web site. The feature I find to be most helpful is the current events.
