Choose Your Battles Wisely

Every country has its gemstone of
attraction. Paris has the Eiffel tower, Italy
has the leaning one, the U.S. has the Statue of Liberty… Brazil has the Corcovado, or statue of Christ, situated at the top of a mountain overlooking the city of Rio de Janeiro.
A trip to the statue would amaze anyone. Hence, it is a huge tourist attraction. From the top one can see a breathtaking view of the entire city, nestled among green hills and surrounded by sparkling blue waters.
It is a sight indeed, one that can never be forgotten and will stay in the mind and heart of the visitor forever. At the statue itself, there are people from all walks of life, from all over the world. One can take a train to the top or go by car. Either way is a great method of sightseeing.

The Corcovado

The layout of the city is amazing, and from the top by the statue it appears surreal, like a tiny model or picture on a postcard. Looking up at the statue itself one gains a sense of mortality. The head of Christ is slightly tilted downward, as if he is looking down at the city, watching over the world below. The hands of the statue are spread outward and seem to be able to reach to the ends of the earth. At night one can spot the statue from almost any point in Rio. It is forever surrounded by a sheath of clouds. Eerily, the statue glows in the moonlight and is raised above dark, moving clouds. At night, the scene is enough to send shivers down one’s spine.
There are times in our lives when we find magic. Magical people, and places…
I found magic in a city. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Upon first contact, it appears busy, crowded, mysterious; this city nestled among hills, surrounded by endless waters, the sounds in the air, the animated voices of the people, the joyous sounds from the beaches. Rio is often viewed as a great vacation spot. A destination for travelers, yearning to set foot on world-famous beaches such as Copacabana or Ipanema…
But the magic does not begin until you meet the people from Rio. Happy, friendly tanned smiling faces…The city represents a personality, one distinctive of Brazil and the country’s people. Rio is known for a few main attractions other than the notorious beaches, the sugar loaf and the Corcovado, to name a few.
A visit to the Corcovado is priceless. Upon this mountain is an entire view of the city, and one can meet visitors from all over the world. As expected, the statue is a breathtaking sight. There is simply something magical about Rio•
