Since its inception, Hispanic Awareness Month has been the cornerstone of the enrichment component for the
Office of Hispanic Student Services. Throughout its twenty-four year history, this celebration has offered
a great variety of programming to include lectures and colloquia, informal dialogues, performances, plays, film series and other events of interest to the larger community both on and off campus. Each year, Hispanic Awareness Month strives to meet the following objectives: To educate and inform

The Ohio State University and the community at large as to the cultural, socio-economic, political, and educational concerns affecting the Hispanic population; To promote cultural understanding among the Hispanic student population and community as well as to enhance cross-cultural awareness at The Ohio State University; To capture the richness and diversity of the Hispanic world through a variety of programs which assist in furthering the understanding and sensitivity to multicultural differences.
As was to be expected, this year’s Hispanic Awareness Month met all of these objectives and more! April was filled with numerous learning experiences such as lectures by visiting professors as well as OSU’s own talented professors. And of course, the month was filled with dancing and eating too!

La Noche Latina
Thursday, April 18 marked
perhaps the most
talked about HAM event back by popular demand: La Noche Latina/Late Night @ the Ohio Union. The East and West Ballrooms and Food Court area of the Union were filled with activities for the whole family from 9 PM-1 AM on this exciting evening.

Featured events included La Noche de Ronda (talent show), La Lotería (Mexican Bingo), Frame and Jewelry making, Face Painting, a Dominoe Tournament, and even a not-so-appetizing Jalapeño Pepper Eating Contest. And of course what would La Noche Latina be without dancing? Salsa and Merengue classes were taught for most of the evening to the hip-swaying music of the Tropicoso Band. It was definitely an evening of fun for students, faculty, staff, and children alike

H.A.M. Student Art Exhibit
Several students gathered on the evening of Thursday, April 4 to witness the opening of a student art exhibit in the Exposures Gallery on the 2nd floor of the Ohio Union. Two of the three artists whose work was being displayed attended the event. Lucille Chenhalls (right), pictured here with her painting entitled The Eyes of God, is a second year student pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in photography.Ondine Quinn (left), pictured with her painting, Santeria, which was later moved to the Migration Project Opening in Bricker Hall, is a sophomore pursuing Political Science and International Studies.
